Malanda State School is a coeducational facility and was opened in 1913 and provides education for students enrolled from pre-school to Year 7. Malanda State School is the largest of four State primary schools in the shire.

Malanda is situated centrally in the Eacham Shire, amidst National Parks, World Heritage listed rainforest and rolling green farmlands. It is 69 kilometres by road south west from Cairns on the Atherton Tableland.
