TOWNSVILLE STATE HIGH SCHOOL
'Strive For Better Things'
Acting Principal - Mrs. Christine Robinson
Co-educational secondary school for years 8 - 12. Townsville State High School is the first state high school in Townsville and was established on the city campus in July 1924. A successful week of celebrations in October 1999 marked the 75th Anniversary of the school. The school, known locally as Town High has a rich history and a proud tradition, as well as a progressive approach to postmodern education.
Town High offers Curriculum flexibility and choice which encourages students to select individual programs to develop their natural abilities. A school of approximately 550 students promotes individualised attention and Reef Academic Counsellors guide students in selecting semester units of subjects. Town High is a Technology, Maths and Science Centre of Excellence as well as a Learning and Development Centre for the Gifted and Talented and special programs challenge students in specific areas. Many Town High students experience success in national, state and local competitions. All students are encouraged to become competent users of technology.
The school also provides students with relevant skills in business and/or technological work practices through access to modern facilities and programs in Business Education, Hospitality, Catering and Manual Arts. School-based Traineeships and Apprenticeships provide many opportunities for students to enter the workforce while completing their schooling. Additional support is also provided to students with learning difficulties through our Learning Support Unit.
