The Aboriginal and Islander Independent Community School has been operating since 1986.

With its relocation in 1998 to its first permanent ‘home’ in Acacia Ridge, it has determined to broaden its base from a focus on primary schooling to move into secondary education and to incorporate a range of community-based education and training services for a range of age groups in a range of settings and cultural contexts.
